NZ RSE Workshops
This year the NZ RSE conference will have two hands-on container workshops. The first covers the fundamentals of using Docker container technologies, and the second builds on those basics to show how to create and use containers in a shared high performance computing (HPC) environment.
Morning workshop: Introduction to docker container technologies
This session aims to introduce the use of Docker containers with the goal of using them to effect reproducible computational environments. Software containers allow researchers to package up and manage software, minimising much of the difficulty in setting up and sharing computational environments in which to effect reproducible research and analyses.
Afternoon workshop: Containers in HPC
This tutorial will cover the basics of creating and using containers specifically in a shared HPC environment. Attendees will learn how to run GPU- and MPI-enabled applications with containers, how containers can be used to improve performance in Python workflows and I/O-intensive jobs, and more. Note: the containers in HPC workshop builds on the content presented in the morning workshop so it is recommended you register for and attend both
